Liondub – King of The Jungle

LionDub has been in the game for over 23 years and has received worldwide acclaim for releases on so many great labels, so many to mention but just to give you a taste, Liondub has released press on DJ Rap‘s Propa Talent, Jay Cunnings Sub Slayers, Philly Blunt, Asbo Audio and of course his own Label Liondub international which is doing big things.
Liondub the DJ
Liondub is the epitome of a diverse DJ. Starting his DJ career playing Reggae, Dub, Dancehall and Hip Hop in 1986 with his first professional gig in 1991. Liondub has toured the world selecting for the masses and recalls his first gig “My first live gig was at place called the new music cafe, it was on Canal St in Manhattan” at this event Liondub played alongside Jamalski, Mr Live, Rocker T and a host of others.
Liondub has graced the stages of countless venues and Festivals, one of the most notable is the Outlook Festival which is Europe’s largest bass music event. Liondub not only played there in 2010 but also 2011 and 2012.
For Liondub, although he travels extensively, home for him is New York City and is favorite place to play at is an NYC rooftop pool party at The James Hotel where he has been a resident for the last four years. At this event, Liondub plays Old Skool RnB, Hip Hop, Reggae Dancehall, some African music.
Liondub once played 240 shows in one year sometimes playing up to 9 shows per week. He now plays out less often, instead Liondub is completing shorter tours mainly in the U.S and Europe and is spending more time on the production side of things as well as running his record label Liondub International.
Liondub also holds down two shows on the legendary Kool London. Tuesday Dancehall Show as well as Wednesday Jungle Drum and Bass Show.

Studio wise Liondub has extensive experience in production and mastering techniques as well as doing live tracking and live recording in America as well as Jamaica.
Nowadays he works mostly in the box using Logic and its associated plugins as well as utilizing a quality vocal recording channel.
Liondub has worked with a host of artists in the studio on countless original tracks and remixes. To name just a few of the artists he has worked with: Elephant Man, Johnny Osbourne, Rubi Dan, TopCat, Blackout JA, Tenor Fly. He welcomes collaborating with artists and is excited at the prospects of creating new and original music “More and more I find it is increasingly exciting for me because my skills, my connection, my abilities technically have come so far that it has increasingly become more enjoyable”
“I feel honored to have been able to work with all these artists and I still have projects on the table right now that I never ever in a million years thought I would be working with”.
2014 has been a great year with 13 remixes out on labels other than his own such as Philly Blunt, Serial Killaz, Congo Natty, Sub Slayers “That shift from Djing to production was a really great move for me and I think its really helped in terms of forwarding my career.
Originally set by himself and Marcus Visionary in 2008, Liondub now manages all aspects of the label handling the label’s accounting, publicity, marketing and even mastering of the labels records.
“I find it very rewarding to handle these aspects of the label because it gives me a greater knowledge of how the label is supposed to run and mainly becuase I get a chance to help other producers and other artists to be heard”
The label is really moving forward in terms of how people appreciate the music and the amount of artists that want to be involved and associated with it as well as the volume of releases they are putting out for the world to hear.
Just some of the notable releases forthcoming on the label are a 5 track EP from Macky Gee featuring a remix from Marcus Visionary and Sugar Minott, the label will also be releasing an EP from Upgrade, Fine Print, Digital, Isaac Maya, Benny Page and lots still to come from Marcus Visionary.
The Labels “Street Series” features a range of young independent and upcoming artists from styles traditionally Liondub International would not have put out.
The Numa Crew album will be out soon featuring artists such as Mc Kwality and Robert Dallas to name but a few but as Liondub explains “With the Numa Crew album, it’s taking a very new direction for the label as its a multi genre album with everything from Trap to Hip Hop to Reggae Dancehall. Jungle, Drum & Bass, Dupstep and even EDM styles on it“
The label still has 5 more releases for 2014 featuring Ranking Joe, Jah Cure, Daddy Freddy, Junior Dangerous and Johnny Osbourne.
Not content with this, the label also has four 7″ series coming out Produced by Adam Prescott and Liondub and will feature Jahdan Blackamore, Johnny Osbourne, Ranking Joe and Sugar Minott as well as Pat Anthony.
With the firmest of roots and vision for the future, Liondub sound truly stands alone……
