RELEASE DATE: MARCH 16TH
VIRGIN/EMI / RAM RECORDS
Following on from his stand out album ‘Hypnotic, not to mention underground tracks ‘Rush’ and ‘Decompression’, selling out Brixton Academy with his live show and getting an unlikely big up from Sir Elton John; Wilkinson continues his rise with his next offering. A much talked about collaboration with an artist that needs little introduction – Label mate, fellow drum and bass heavyweight and all round sonic innovator… Sub Focus. Sub Focus himself coming hot off the back of incredible tracks with the likes of Alma, Rudimental, Chronixx, Stylo G and more, the pairing is both unexpected and yet anticipated by the music scene. Both artists went out to headline respective shows in New Zealand at the end of last year for NYE, and spontaneously started the collaboration onboard their flight home together.
Speaking on the collaboration, Wilkinson states:
“I’ve always been a fan of Nick’s (Sub Focus) work. From his early records up until today. So it’s a pleasure to finally collaborate after all these years of spending time on the road and bumping into each other at festivals. We actually started writing this record together randomly on a 24 hour flight back from New Zealand, after playing a NYE show. Then when we got home in January we jumped in the studio and finished it. We had to call it ‘Take It Up’ after that! Kinda mad really.”
Unlike other musical genres where collaborations are a weekly occurrence, this is the first time two of the drum and bass scenes leading ‘headliners’ have ever collaborated, and it’s a monster.
Both acts can count millions of sales, sold out tours and countless classics within their respective catalogues and have cemented themselves as festivals headliners and long time residents at Ibiza’s iconic Amnesia.
‘Take It Up’, does exactly what it says on the tin and is set to be a festival favourite. For a chance to hear the tune in action, head down to Sub Focus’ headline Brixton Academy show on March 29th.
